Stuff Dirtier than your Toilet Seat. You May Be Surprised!

Do you know why it’s important to clean your home on a regular basis?

When it comes to house cleaning, do you know exactly why it’s important to clean your home on a regular basis?

Sunny Rain HouseKeepers has done some searching to find out where germs lay in your home so when carrying out your house cleaning, we’re sure to get your home as fresh and germ free as possible.

Let us take a look at a few things that you may not consider a place where germs live.

Don’t worry too much.

Our immune systems are designed to deal with germs and bugs every day, so don’t panic as you read a few examples.

Your Carpeted House
Carpets. Cosy and warm in the winter months and most kids prefer rolling around on the carpet rather than a wooden floor but did you know that research suggests that your carpet has 4,000 times more bacteria than your toilet seat? And to give you an idea of the population living in your carpet, it’s estimated that almost 200,000 bacteria live in every square inch of carpet!
Get one of our Romford house cleaners now to suck up them germs.

Some of the bacteria that can be found in your carpet include salmonella E. Coli and staphylococcus.

When you know this, you can understand why some people like shoes taken off before walking over the carpet to stop the spread of outside germs as well as the dirt.

Also, as humans, we shed 1.5 million skin cells every hour which is food for bacteria and apparently, 90% of people admit to spilling food on the carpet and then eating it. Really?

On the other hand, maybe your shoes protect you? Still, a good reason to ensure you give a good hoover at least once a week of all your carpets including getting in to the edges and corners.

Bathroom and Kitchen Taps
At Sunny Rain HouseKeepers we love shiny taps and showers. Bathrooms and toilets are a priority and a speciality for our house cleaners.

Even so, your tap handles are constantly in use so even the cleanest of cleaners have dirty taps as not many people clean taps after every use!

Your bathroom tap handles can have up to 21 times more germs than your toilet seat but what’s worse is that your kitchen taps can hold up to 44 times more germs than your toilet seat.

If you wonder why your kitchen taps are full of more germs than your bathroom taps, well it’s down to the handling of food stuffs, especially meats and fish. And with the latest news about salad leafs, don’t forget to give them a good wash too!

Get Clean in your Bath
You would think that the bath where you get clean would be free of germs but true this is not, as Yoda would say.

Baths are found to have mild to dangerous bacteria in them including fecal matter. Bath and shower cleaning should be done with bleach or other quality bathroom cleaners to ensure you evict as many germs as possible. It’s a good idea to dry sinks, baths and showers after cleaning too.

The cleaning of overflows, plug holes and pipes are also a good way to reduce the germs in sinks, baths and showers.
Did we tell you that our house cleaners specialise in bathroom and toilet cleaning?

On to the Kitchen Dishcloth
We all know that dishcloths hold germs right? But did you know that salmonella snuggles in the said cloth?

To get a kitchen clean to good standards time needs to be taken to ensure the cleaning of under things as well as corners of worktops and cupboard handles etc. Our house cleaners can do this for you on a regular basis.
And many people will use a dish cloth around the house, especially as they are good on many different surfaces.

Each square inch of a dish cloth can contain more than 134,000 bacteria. That’s around 456 times more than what is found on your toilet seat.

Also, a research study says that 89% of dish cloths and kitchen sponges had some kind of coliform bacteria, which is feces from warm blooded animals, including humans.

Be sure to clean your dish cloth after use and replace them often. Good practice would be to use a completely new one each week.

Kitchen Sinks can be Fatal
How? Like most people, you probably disinfect your toilet on a regular basis but do you do the same for your kitchen sink?

Research states that kitchen sinks can hold more germs than a toilet due to the lack of a good clean. Most people will only rinse the kitchen sink after use and because it looks clean, they think it’s clean. The opposite is true.

The types of germs that lurk in your kitchen sink include the deadly E. Coli and salmonella. A cleaner from Sunny Rain HouseKeepers will use bleach on your sink to ensure the germs are stopped in their tracks and you should too. It’s the particles of food and the moisture that creates the breeding ground for these bacteria. Stop feeding them!

And what about the Man’s beard?
Research was done on a TV news programme where a microbiologists found that some men's facial hair contained as many germs as you would commonly find on an average toilet seat. The bacteria in beards should not be immediately thought of as coming from poo though.

Some researchers did argue that this isn’t what it sounds like, although beards do contain gut bacteria which is also found in poo.

Oh my! Imagine kissing someone with a beard. Well, it’ll be like kissing …. Which is only a good thing when you’re after a promotion, trying to get outa the dog house or just plain kinky! Or dirty…

Ok, nothing to do with house cleaning BUT we do clean bedrooms and change beds :)
Other studies have confirmed that bearded men carry more bacteria than men without a beard.

Would love to hear your comments on this one!
